The other night as our class sat down to watch episodes of  Summer Heights High and Kath and Kim, two of Australia’s most popular television shows, we were shocked to hear what sounded like expletives. Upon further investigation we were able to confirm that yes, we had indeed heard those words that are all together absent from American television programs.

At first we thought this must only be happening because we were watching the DVD, but our professors were quick to throw that thesis right out the window. These shows ran on television as is, expletives and all. Something that us as Americans could barely wrap our heads around. So why the lack of a muzzle you ask? The answer is simple. (more…)
