I thought I would never Doubt Joanne Lisosky. She has been my mom, my professor, my friend these last 26 days, and I trusted her. That is up until this point. One night on a quiet bus ride home from downtown Sydney. She got on our bus filled with excitement. She had just seen the movie Doubt. She convinced myself and Courtney to see the movie and that it was amazing and so on and so forth. Completely Pumped to see this great movie we finally found time to go see it, and it left me how i feel now. Completely and utterly Confused!? Joanne lisosky how could you mislead us so!? lol. I hope upon my return She can explain the movie to me. Joanne Lisosky has proved to be an absolutely amazing professor and insightful person to talk to. In this isolated occasion her movie advice Australia, I Doubt. lol

Throughout my life I thought having Spencer for a last name was rough because people would see Brittany S. and say Spears? But let me tell it gets worst than that. Every time my friends, family or classrooms would say “lets go in alphabetical order” guess who was last? J-term to Australia was no exception. When the tickets for our 12 hour train ride was purchased guess who name along with Peter Young was at the end of the list? Spencer, now at this point I’m sure your thinking why does this matter. Well, it matters because those two names were the two people without sleeping berths. After this shocking discovery Courtney, Markayla and myself constructed a risky plan. In the sleeping space fit for my 11 year old brother, we planned to fit all three of us. At this point I would like my readers to be completely aware that it was against the rules to do this and possible against some fire regulations. We moved the bottom mattress to the floor,  folded the bed back into a couch, and let the top bunk down like normal. To give you a visual from top to bottom it went;  Markayla on the top bunk,  me on the couch and Courtney on the floor. It was nothing short of magical. NOTHING brings a team together like a severe lack of oxygen, true friendship and sacrifice, the Lute way.

When we are staying in a nice, hot, and tropical place, we are always looking for that one hotspot where the sun always shines… the beach! When you have a day off what better way is there to spend your day other than relaxing on a sandy surface, the sun in your face, and the sound of the waves hitting the shore? Sounds like Paradise right? Well it is, Surfer’s Paradise to be precise and exactly the paradise for surfers. This beautiful hot spot is located in the Gold Coast about an hour and a half outside of Brisbane. There is more to do than just lay out and get skin cancer, there’s also tons of shopping boutiques where tourists like myself can go bankrupt in just about 2 hours, but don’t worry the food is just cheap enough so you can spend most of your money on the stuff that lasts forever (haha). If you do plan to visit sometime I recommend shopping wednesday nights or the weekends because a small swap meet takes place and they have really neat stuff. (more…)

Not only will the waves at Surfers Paradise take off a layer of skin, they will also take you out to sea. So be extremely careful as I have learned by observation.

I took a swim by Surfers Paradise and found myself struggling to stay up. The waves were so powerful they would knock me down. So after I decided I had been beaten up plenty by the ferocious waves I headed back to my towel. I found myself short of breath and not long after I found a comfy spot on my towel a loud announcement came on. (more…)

customlogoYesterday we met with Michael Dezuanni and Derek Weeks from ATOM (Australian Teachers of Media).  It was interesting to learn about what media education consists of in Australia.  Down under they mean business! Teacher of media are focused on teaching about media literacy, which means that students from years 1- 10 are taught how to critically observe and question the different forms of media.  ATOM hopes to prepare students to become more involved with media culture.  The syllabus created by ATOM doesn’t want to “protect” children from media, but instead enlightens young people how interpret and read multiple media formats.
